The 4 Key Takeaways from Shopify DotDev 2026

We left Shopify DotDev feeling very energized about where commerce is heading, especially for fashion merchants where Fit Quiz Size Recommender shines. Here are our 4 key takeaways that matter to Shopify fashion brands.

1. Return to Liquid

One of the biggest announcements was Shopify’s renewed commitment to Liquid for themes. For Fit Quiz merchants, this is good news without requiring any changes. 9 out of 10 themes that already have Fit Quiz installed use Liquid, and our app is fully optimized to work within that framework. Merchants can continue using Fit Quiz without worrying about their theme getting in the way.

2. Faster, smarter and more capable Sidekick

We are also excited about Sidekick App Extensions. Shopify apps will be able to bring their data and actions directly into Sidekick, giving merchants faster access to the information they need without moving between different dashboards. This opens up some very interesting possibilities for how merchants could access Fit Quiz performance and sizing data in the future.

3. Collections that fit merchants needs

The new Collections experience should give apparel brands much more control over merchandising. Merchants will be able to combine automation rules with handpicked products, target specific variants, and use app data to build collections. Think collections based on a specific color, fit, or product attribute without the usual manual upkeep.

4. Ever evolving Agentic Commerce

Then there is agentic commerce, which has been a hot topic on everyone’s list this year. Shopify’s Universal Commerce Protocol and Catalog API are creating the infrastructure for products to be discovered and purchased through ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Gemini. For apparel and footwear brands, this makes detailed and current product information even more important. AI needs enough information to understand what a product is, who it may work for, and why it is different. Getting discovered is the 1st step. Helping the shopper confidently choose the right size is still a very important step 2.

Most of these announcements will roll out over time, but the direction is so exciting. Shopify is continuing its efforts to make it easier for merchants to run their stores, merchandise products, and sell wherever shoppers are looking.

Our biggest takeaway is that we’re standing right in the middle of all of this opportunity for our ICP (apparel and footwear brands) to benefit from Fit Quiz. We knew we were in the right place, and this has cemented that for us!
